Maybe You Should Have Checked Yourself First

Today, I came across a news blurb about Microsoft Corp. For those of you that haven't had a chance to come across this story, it goes a little something like this: Microsoft has made a public apology for changing the race of a person in one of its photo ads. to go a little deeper the US ad has 3 people in it, two men (one Asian and one Black) and a White woman, however the same ad on MicroSoft's Polish website has taken the Black man's head off and replaced it with that of a white man. The kicker is, the photo editor forgot to change the man's hands, so the end result is a White man with black hands...

So, the first question that comes to mind, is how much of a big deal is it? Really, how many people looked at that ad, and didn't even notice it? Does it really warrant a public apology, or is more of an "oops, my bad" type situation. I'm no expert, but you kinda have to look hard at this one...And really if you Microsoft issues a public apology, shouldn't L'Oreal do the same thing for their ad featuring Beyonce (which the darker version of her ended up in magazines like Essence, Ebony, and Jet, and the lighter versions ended up in Cosmo, Redbook, etc.)????

Perhaps the media, bloggers, and the such are blowing this way out of proportion...I don't know, you be the judge!!!

What about the Kids

I must admit that I have become a R.S.J., for those unfamiliar that stands for Reality Show Junkie. From watching 7 complete strangers live together in one house, to trying to figure out who will he or she really pick to be with, I have watched way too many shows. For the most part, I watch them for pure entertainment, but I definitely see that Reality TV is definitely getting way out of hand.

Today, I was reading an article called "Do Reality Shows Abuse Children", and it gave something to really think about. The article leans more to the point of Child Labor laws, in particular the limits on the amount of hours that children are able to work. But if you think about it, aren't reality shows walking the fine line of exploitation of children.

Case in point, MTV's newest, 16 and Pregnant. I'm so mad at MTV for this show. This show just really bothers me on so many different levels, probably the most being how it has the potential to send out the completely wrong message to young girls. Another one that gets under my skin is that dang on Jon and Kate and all them children. This show allows for the lives, emotional moments, and the mistakes of the parents of these poor kids to be completely on display for the whole world to see, and unfortunately the kids have nothing to say about it, they aren't even protected under the same regulations that child actors for movies or "real" television shows are.

I'm not saying that the kids on reality shows are intentionally being hurt, but really how "real" can their lives be with camera's always around.....

Push Back Away From the Table

Today, I want to focus on healthy living. My motivation for this came from an article that I was reading this morning regarding obesity rates in the US. I was a bit bothered by the article, because it stated that all in all, 36% of Black Americans and 29% of Hispanics are obese, and that health officials weren't at all surprised by these figures, because "racial differences in obesity rates have been reported before". It even broke down by states where the obesity ocurred the most; turns out that Maine had the highest obesity rate for Blacks, while Tennessee had the highest obestity rates for Hispanics.
The article went on to say that just like other problems in society, economics is a big driver of the problem. But it also said that in addition to economics, individual attitudes played a huge part as well. One of the CDC epidemiologists was reported saying that "Blacks and Hispanics are more accepting of high weight, and that heavy people satisfied with their size are not likely to diet and exercise."
Now really, is there any truth to that statement? I would say that his statement is partially valid. I say partially because I think that that mindset is not just associated with Blacks or Hispanics. I mean think about it, how many times have you ran across those "confident" people that are good with their size, and even try to knock those that are smaller...Some of you may remember the many comments made by the comedian Mo'Nique about smaller women being skinny b*tches, or even her beauty pagent for women, Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance. I by no means am an expert on what makes people tick, but one would have to question if stuff like that, actually contributes to the problem.
So what does all this mean for us? What should we be doing to combat these problems? Do we start with the mind in hopes to impact the body, or vice versa?

Hold Up...Do What????

So I'm reading this article today from the Associated Press about this guy in Georgia who had been jailed for not paying child support....The story is something to the effect that the man was with this woman some 20 odd years ago, a child was conceived, they broke up, and then she applied for assistance. Well when she did this, of course they (the State) went back to lil' buddy looking for him to pay for this child. So, the guy did what he was supposed to and provided support for this child for about 13 years, then at some point around that 13th year, something came over his spirit, I guess that said "check into that, that baby may not be yours". Next up was the DNA test, and come to find out, in the words of my good buddy Maury, "You are NOT the father"...

But this is where it gets a little complicated to me, after he finds out he's not the father he goes back to court and to get the child support order terminated, and that goes as planned, but then the judge orders him to still pay back child support....Hold up...Do What???? According to the judge, he still owed close to $20,000 for all the time before the ruling to drop the child support order....

And do you know, that lil' buddy, according court documents was paying on this back child support, for like 6 years, and then he lost his job and even became homeless. So, because he fell behind on the back, the State locked him up for a year. Now come on, was that really all that necessary?? I don't know what's crazier the fact that he was ordered to pay back, that he kept paying it, or that they locked him up for it.

Where is/was the "baby mama" when all this was going on? Probably somewhere collecting her check. Maybe she should have paid the back....

Hello My Name is Kisha and I'm a Blogger.....

Ok so where do I start....I guess just at the beginning. I like many others, find myself with an ample amount of time on my hands during the day...time in which I often spend surfing the internet catching up on theatest newsworthy ( and not so newsworthy events). I'm even guilty of being a frequent Facebook visitor as well. But lately, I have been drawn more and more to blogs. I have read all kinds of blogs; single parent, nautral hair care, dating, celebrity, fitness, etc. So I figured that I would jump on the blogging bandwagon and start my own.

Now I know that it would probably be better if I came up with some "grand" purpose for my blog, but really there isn't one, other than just to talk about random events, thoughts, etc.

So with that being said, I hope that all who come to read my blogs will enjoy.
